Why is running your anti virus software once a day a bad idea?
I have heard this can be bad. That is running your anti virus software daily. Is this true? If true, why then?
There is nothing wrong with running your anti-virus daily, it is a common practice with many professionals. The only harm it will do is slow down your computer while you are running it.

ok, we need a balance. harddisk are getting bigger and data are getting more. if i run a full virus scan, my com is going to be so slow that i cant work on. it may take 1-2hrs. that is as good as a down time for end users so we schedule it at just 30mins before lunch so by time they are back, scan is done.
some say too much scanning may create more fragmentation of harddisk. im not sure how true is this, seem myth to me . my endusers harddisk are not fragmented after full scan once everyday.

It uses up resources but that’s pretty much it. I guess the auto-updates can hit at inconvenient times too, but no long-term hangups or damage can come from it. If anything the best AV programs available are ones that employ a daily scan feature, and you likely had to pay just to get it…
EDIT: Ken- Fragmenting is really just a problem for those with older systems or ones that haven’t been maintained much, if at all. If that is what the asker’s talking about, it is absolutely not a factor for virtually every user.
