What is the best free computer protection / anti-virus software?
I only have a few days left on my Norton internet security subscription, and I am a little tight on money at the moment. So I was wondering if there are any computer protection / anti-virus software’s that are free and effective.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
You can try free antivirus- avast. It is free and secure.

My favorite is Avira. Interestingly, MS Security Essentials has improved greatly, although it has problems detecting malware not in their definition files.
You can check http://www.av-comparatives.org to see results of most anti-viruses on various tests.

Here’s a list of the top free antivirus software according to PCMag:

The above article also includes other softwares that you could use to protect your computer. You cannot rely on one software alone to do all the protection. Also, be careful, as deleting your original software (Norton) might not be easy. I had McAfee antivirus before, after the subscription’s due, I decided to switch to free software. But deleting it was very messy. Despite uninstalling it, the new software still detected a running antivirus software. So I had to research before finally uninstalling the program thoroughly.

I think the two best ones are AVG and Avast, you can download them both for free at my blog:
