What is a free and reliable anti virus software?
If you know any good, free anti virus software that I can download that doesn’t take up half the memory of the computer, please let me know.
Avast Antivirus is very good. With it’s on-access protection, all things that come in contact with your computer from the web are scanned. It’s virus database is constantly up to date. Don’t think that it is any less reliable that Norton or any other antivirus that costs money.
They provide the same services to businesses, but charge them. The people that use it for their personal computers are essentially helping the company because they come in contact with a wider range of trojans and viruses. If you happen to come in contact with a new virus, it is added to their database and provided in the next update for all of their users.

avira, avast and comodo all good but all antiviruses throw up false positives and give dire warnings about unimportant files, if you use comodo firewall disable logging as it can slow down browsing

AVG and Avast! are two of the best and what I use on most of my computers (if you’re wanting to use something that doesn’t take up half your memory I’d suggest AVG, just out of experience.)
I never have problems with either. Avast! you can control better, while AVG seems to take care of everything for you.
