Virus software?
Which is the best free virus software and firewall to install on windows xp, that will get rid of anything nasty on my pc
The Windows firewall doesn’t stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Either of these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. They are both fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

AVG for anitvirus is free, and Zonealarm is a good firewall. Just disable XP’s own firewall if using Zonealarm.

There’s no one program that will do anything. ZoneAlarm has a free version of their firewall, and you can also get a complete security suite from them that will do it all.

Norton Systemworks Premier is my choice and I use PC tools’ SpyDoctor for spyware, adware, malware removal.
There are many good ones so it really comes down to your preference. Most anti-virus software has a trial period, so you can test them out and see if they suit your needs.
There are also various (free) online anti-virus programs and anti-spy/mal/adware out there.
