Is it a good idea to run 2 anti virus software at the same time?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

i do have McAfee security and also Windows Defender,is it ok to run both at the same time, also is it ok to enable Disk Defragmenter while running these anti virus software, anything that i should know?

Thanks in advance.
lucee– i like windows defender more than anything but as far as i know you must have an external anti virus too in order to be full protected,w.defender basically defends you against basic stuff that’s why you need an "extra" software to be fully protected,i found out by reading it in the windows help in my O.S. when i tried to get rid of McCafee once! Thanks for your answer.

You can only enable one at a time and end up with NO antivirus protection, because all they will do is find each other. And Windows’ defragger is crap. If you can, download, install and use Auslogics free defrag. In all my years of working with computers (over 20) I’ve never seen or used a defrag as good as this one.

Back to your first question: settle on one or the other. Since I absolutely detest McAfee for its lack of updating and it’s greedy use of system resources, I’d have to prefer Windows Defender.
